Clayton County, GA authorities say Jevon Freeman, 25, was found dead in a car Wednesday after attempting to sell his iPhone on Craigslist, reports WGCL-TV.
Freeman was a guard on the ASU basketball team from 2007-2010, according to bamastatebeat.com.
“He was a happy-go lucky kid. He worked hard in practice every day. He was fun to be around. It’s a tragedy he’s gone. He will be missed,” said Alabama State Men’s basketball Coach Lewis Jackson.
Two teenagers have been arrested in the case, reports WGCL-TV. Terrance Justin Dent, 18, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon used during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence and furnishing a pistol to a minor. An unidentified 17-year-old is charged with possession of a weapon by a minor.
Martha Freeman, the victim’s mother, said Jevon Freeman used Craigslist to earn money in addition to what he made owning a barbershop.
“He used Craigslist a lot to sell different stuff that he had, and mainly it was just extra money to be able to support his family,” Martha Freeman told WGCL-TV. “He always promised me that he would never do it off in a secluded place, that he would always do it in a public view.”
Freeman’s fiancee, two young sons, family and friends gathered at Freeman’s Covington barbershop on Sunday to remember him and warn others to be careful when meeting up with strangers.
