Jennifer Hudson is a Chicago native that endured a terrible personal tragedy at the beginning of her career. Her mother, brother and nephew was killed and her brother in-law was charged with the crime.
Jennifer and her sister, Julia Hudson started a foundation in honor of her nephew Julian. The foundation provides coats, food and more for child in and around the Chicago land area.
Last night at the 40th People’s Choice Award, Jennifer was awarded the 2014 Humanitarian Award. Rapper and actor LL Cool J presented the award to Hudson calling her an incredibly gifted artist who turned a family tragedy into a triumph for children in need. Jennifer had her sister Julia stand by her side as she gave the following speak.
I have to start off saying the same thing I said when I won my Oscar — look what God can do!
My mother always taught us that without family you have nothing, and whether you know it or not all are family, and what happens to the other happens to us, so it’s very important to make a difference.
It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have power … but it means nothing if we’re not helping someone else. It also feels good to see positivity acknowledged.
Congratulations to Jennifer and her family!! Keep up the good work.
