A middle school in Idaho just fired its lunch lady for serving a free meal to a hungry child.
Daleen Bowden worked at Irving Middle School in Pocatello, Idaho. 12-year-old told her she had no money,
A 12-year-old told her she had no money, Daleen served her anyway and said she’d take care of it.
Her supervisor witnessed Daleen’s act of kindness and promptly reported her. The school fired her for theft.
Daleen says she would probably do it all over again.
The school has yet to publicly explain why it felt compelled to fire her over the cost of a single serving; she’s hired an attorney, and Pocatello parents have launched a petition drive to support her.
