Dear Lupita,’ it reads. ‘I think you’re really lucky to be this Black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me.
“My heart bled a little when I read those words. And so I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey. That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside. There is no shame in black beauty.”
Dencia responded to the speech on Twitter with venom. Dencia tweeted, “A girl writer u a letter?lol thru which email when I just checked ur twitter n can’t see an email address!!lr pr tried n thanks 4 the Pub.”
The attack continued with Dencia claiming Lupita is a product owned by white people and other disrespectful comments. So far, Lupita Nyong’o hasn’t responded and to be honest, she doesn’t need to. However, we shall see how this plays out.
@IamDencia yo, I read about your words to @Lupita_Nyongo. while I really don’t think black people should bleach, you made some good points.
