In a single tweet, the Jackpot rapper inherited a wide range of responses from his fellow tweeters after he published a statement that alludes to his backing of Trump this coming election season. “Politics vs society. People should innerstand that politics is a business jus like the job you work at. I vote for @realDonaldTrumo “YEP” 3,” he wrote.

Given the swift backlash, Chingy spoke with Billboard to clear the air on his sentiment, stating that his apparent endorsement stemmed from agreeing with a few ideas Trump talked about in a news article, mainly Medicare being available for Americans and preventing instances of terrorism in the United States. But as Chingy did a little more research after his viral tweet, he learned that he didn’t side with all of Trump’s recent comments.
“I didn’t know about some of the negative things he had to say about some of the races out here and about the hip-hop community,” he said. “I didn’t know a lot of the negative things, I was kind of commenting off reading that article and reading some of the good things that he said, so that’s kind of where my comments came from.”
To further promote his point, Chingy also recorded a video titled “I DO NOT endorse Donald Trump,” where he then thanks his fans for notifying him of all the controversial statements Trump has made throughout the course of his political run. “In no way do me and Donald Trump share the same personal views, especially when it comes to minorities, so I do not endorse him.”
At the end, Chingy tells Billboard that he’ll continue to learn more about this presidential campaign. “I might follow it a little more, just stay up on it a little more, just to check it out and see what it is I do need to know versus what I don’t know.”
