Big Boy is the host of Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Power 106 FM Los Angeles and Emmis Communications doesn’t want him to leave the station to go and work for iHeartmedia.
Emmis Communications is claiming they discovered the popular radio host 20 years ago when he was a security guard. Even though his contract is up Emmis Communications filed a $5 million lawsuit to keep him at the station
According to TMZ:
Big Boy was making $1.45 million a year — plus bonuses and a car — but his contract was up at the end of this month. According to the suit, Big Boy got an offer from iHeartMedia of $3.5 million plus other royalties and perks, including the use of a private jet.
But Emmis says it has a right under the existing deal to match a competitor’s offer and keep him, and says that’s exactly what it did … but he told the company he was leaving anyway.
But Emmis is on the attack, asking a judge for an order prohibiting Big Boy from bailing. Emmis also wants $5 million.
Big Boy responded to the lawsuit on Instagram today thanking listeners:
“We have laughed and cried together,” he wrote. “My LOVE for you isn’t just words or ratings. This is bigger than a radio logo. You’re my Family. I NEED y’all to survive and be happy. I’m hurt. I’ll be able to tell the real….soon. God bless you all.”
