22-year-old African American Man Appointed New Red Cross Executive Director

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – There’s a new face and leader at the American Red Cross, and get this, he’s only 22-years-old.

Britton Riley started as a volunteer in 2010 and since then has worked his way up to his new position as Executive Director. He describes this opportunity as a huge undertaking and says he’s honored.

At 22-years-old, he already has some great ideas for the organization. First, he wants to work on bringing in more volunteers and getting the community more engaged.

Riley said, “The absolute top priority is community awareness and just the fact that people know that the Red Cross is here. We’re here, we respond 24/7.”

Although there have been some changes around the office, Riley told News 10 there has not been a change in the mission of the American Red Cross.

According to the American Red Cross website their mission states, “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.”
