Chiwetel Ejiofor the lead actor and the main character in 12 year slave was buffed by the Italians whom put Brad Pitt on their promotional poster as if he was the main character in the movie.
The movie 12 Year slave was based on a British-American epic historical drama film and an adaptation of the eponymous 1853 autobiography by Solomon Northup, a New York State-born free negro who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C. in 1841 and sold into slavery.
He worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for twelve years before his release. The first scholarly edition of Northup’s memoir, co-edited in 1968 by Sue Eakin and Joseph Logsdon, carefully retraced and validated the account and concluded it to be remarkably accurate.
So you ask, then why is Brad Pitts face being used to portray this hero which was a black man? Some have expressed approval for this promo choice, remarking that Chiwetel Ejiofor isn’t well known outside of the United States and Italian audiences would be more likely to see this film knowing Brad Pitt is in it.
While that may be very true, It’s highly doubtable that anyone not interested in a slave narrative is going to sit through 1.5 hours of a movie just to see Brad Pitt. The movie is titled “12 Years a Slave,” not “12 Years Brad Pitt.
