A woman was fatally struck by a CTA bus this morning on the Southwest Side, said police.
The accident happened about 6:20 a.m. at 47th Street and Western Avenue in the city’s Brighton Park neighborhood, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs, citing preliminary information.
The woman, age 54, was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:54 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
CTA spokesman Brian Steele said the accident involved a westbound No. 47 bus near the intersection of 47th and Western. Preliminary information from the CTA stated the woman either fainted or fell in the path of the bus, but the accident was still under investigation.
The bus driver was not issued citations, but the Chicago Police Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
