Two-Time Academy Award winner Viola Davis is circling what TheWrap describes as a multi-picture deal to play Amanda Waller not only in Suicide Squad but a number of DC Entertainment films.
Warner Bros. has refused to comment on casting for the role since the movie was announced, when Davis was one of only three candidates named. The actress, who this week won a People’s Choice Award for How to Get Away With Murder, recently admitted she was trying to work out her schedule for Suicide Squad.
The role was previously played by Angela Bassett in the 2011 Green Lantern film. At the time, between her role in the film and her profile in the comics it seemed likely that Amanda Waller and her organization Checkmate were being set up to recur in future DC Comics films, but the Green Lantern film failed to take hold at the box office and no movies were spun out of it.
