I’m sure the Gold Coast residents can now rest easy that there has been an arrest in the carjackings in that area.  I must say that I am disappointed that the speedy process in finding this perpetrator is not put into more effort to stopping the killings on the south side.  I guess a solved crime is a solved crime in this town!! 

A South Side man has been charged with one of three recent carjackings in the Streeterville neighborhood.

Demetris McCrea, 22, of the 8600 block of South Wolcott, is charged with aggravated vehicular carjacking with a firearm and aggravated fleeing police, according to Chicago Police.

McCrea is accused of robbing a 31-year-old man of his 2007 Jeep Cherokee about 8:30 a.m. Monday in a parking garage in the 300 block of East Illinois Street, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.

Two other carjackings occurred in the last week in Streeterville, though McCrea has only been identified as the suspect in the Monday incident, police said.

About 9:20 a.m. Sunday, a 39-year-old man was robbed shortly after he parked his vehicle in the 500 block of North McClurg Court, police said. A Jeep Cherokee approached and a male wearing dark clothing exited the vehicle, displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s belongings.

The victim, who was not injured, complied and the suspect got back in the Jeep and sped away, police said.

Also, a 31-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were inside a black 2014 Jeep Cherokee exiting a parking space about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North McClurg Court when a white van pulled up behind them and blocked their vehicle, police said. A male approached, showed a handgun, forced them to exit their vehicle and took the Jeep.

The suspect then drove away in the Jeep with the white van following, police said.
