NBA player John Henson has taken his frustration of racist behavior to Instagram. Despite him having a multi-million dollar deal and lucrative endorsements, one jewelry store in Whitefish Bay could care less about him or his money.
Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers in Whitefish Bay, WI (a predominately white neighborhood) apparently didn’t want to sell their merchandise to a black man because they locked their doors, told him to go away and all of the staff went to the rear of the store never opening the doors for Henson. Then what happened next was just out of the sheer ignorance of a businessman, the police were called and of course they bombarded Henson with questions. After confirming Henson was on the up and up, the officers told the owners there was no “funny business” going on.
The jewelry story established in 1899 has 2 locations one in Whitefish Bay and downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It wouldn’t matter if they were established on October 1, 2015, what they did was unacceptable and we agree with John Henson, no person of color should spend one thin dime in either of their locations.
EarHustle411 and the writing staff often asks this question: When will we as African-Americans stop spending our money with businesses that obviously don’t respect us for our “black” skin but will take our “green” money? Well in this case was a double whammy, disrespect of the black skin and denial to accept green money. Maybe a nice discrimination lawsuit would open the eyes of the store owners. If he receives an apology, of course we would not be surprised at all, still doesn’t change the fact that their racist behavior has tarnished the legacy of their store and any company’s merchandise they sell like Tudor and Rolex or Tag Heuer and Brietling
This store’s days might be numbered as there is already a boycott page on Facebook. If John Henson’s fans are outraged enough they just may picket in front of both stores.
