A Ghanaian-born, U.K.-based pastor was reportedly arrested for the murder of his pregnant British wife who was found dead in a hotel bathroom in Ghana.

Pastor Eric Isaiah Adusah and his wife, Charmaine Speirs, had traveled to Koforidua in Ghana to attend a church program that had been organized by the House of Prayer Church International. The couple, who are both ordained pastors of the Global Light Revival Ministries, attended the three-day event, which was held from March 4 to 6.

When they arrived in the West African country, Adusah took lodgings at the Koforidua Guest House while Speirs went and stayed with a host pastor, Bishop Yaw Adu.

Once the program was over, they decided to stay a little longer and spend time together, but that is when the troubles started. Speirs wanted to stay in Ghana for a month, while her husband thought it was too long a time to stay and wanted to leave earlier.

Police reports suggest the couple then checked into the Royal Mac Dic Hotel on May 16 and booked a room for just five days. The following day, Adusah decided he did not want to stay any longer after all, and at dawn, asked hotel staff at the front desk to not disturb his wife unless she herself asked them for service.

Despite the warning, and for the next three days, the staff did try to contact Speirs, but to no avail. Finally, on May 20, when her checkout date was due, the hotel management decided to enter the room using a spare key.

That was when the decomposed body of three-months pregnant Speirs was discovered in the room’s bathtub. She had a towel wrapped around her.

Police arrested Adusah on suspicion of murder and are now investigating the case, while Speirs’ body has been moved to a morgue in Ghana’s capital, Accra, pending an autopsy.
