Firefighters say they heard screams for help while battling a blaze at an Idaho home recently, and were surprised to discover parrots instead of humans, TV station KBOI reports.
The firefighters were at the exterior of a Boise, Idaho home on Friday when they say they heard screams for help.
“What was actually recorded was them saying fire, fire,” Victor Islas with the Middleton Fire Department told KBOI. “That’s what we got. ‘Help. Fire.’ Yeah. It’s a smart bird, smart bird. So there was actually nobody besides the birds inside the house.”
Video showed the firefighters then place human-sized oxygen masks over a bird’s face.
Emergency crews told KBOI some birds are trained to issue a warning when there is danger.
The birds were reported to be OK, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
