The Academy Awards organization is suing a marketing company that’s promising lavish — and tacky — gift bags to Oscar nominees on Hollywood’s biggest night.
In a federal civil action filed in Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences targeted Distinctive Assets and its swag bags of goodies for using the Oscar brand name in what the Academy deems an “unseemly” $220,000 gift bag that includes a $250 marijuana vaporizer, a $250 sex toy and $275 worth of Swiss-made toilet paper.
Academy officials claim Distinctive Assets makes it appear the show backs the swag bags.
A rep for Distinctive Assets could not be immediately reached for comment.
