WVON-AM 1690 is changing its nighttime schedule starting next week. Instead of having a different host each weeknight, WVON-AM will instead have just one host working Monday through Thursday, and a former weekend duo will now be heard on Friday nights.

Starting Monday, September 21st, “Real Talk, Real People with Art ‘Chat Daddy’ Sims” will move from Friday nights at 6:00pm-9:00pm to Monday through Thursday nights from 6:00pm-9:00pm.

The “Chat Daddy” show is a lifestyle program offering listeners local and national pop culture and entertainment stories, relationship advice, celebrity interviews, and more.

South Side native Sims has been heard on WVON-AM since May 2014. Prior to that he was a regular contributor to WCIU-TV/The U morning show “You & Me This Morning.” He has also been a columnist for the Chicago Defender and Windy City Times, as well as a writer for Ebony, Jet, N’Digo, and Blacklines. In all, Sims has 21 years’ experience in media.

In 2007, Sims was inducted in the second edition of “Who’s Who in Black Chicago,” and in 2009 he was recognized by Monarch Magazine as a “social dynamo” and “a mover and shaker in the media world.”

In March 2010, Sims was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia. His condition is currently in remission, but he continues to require extensive medical treatments and ongoing cancer drug prescriptions.

Sims continues to be a social advocate for HIV-AIDS prevention and is involved in the Chicago art scene.

The Monday through Thursday version of “Real Talk, Real People with Art ‘Chat Daddy’ Sims” will replace four other shows: “Robin’s Nest with Robin Robinson,” “The People’s Show with Mark J. Wallace,” “The Salim Muwakkil Show,” and “The Maya Akai Show.”

Robinson had just joined WVON-AM in mid-May of this year (as exclusively reported HERE), so the quick cancellation to her show comes as a surprise. She is expected to be available as a guest host for the station, however. Wallace has been heard on WVON-AM for the past few years. He is expected to return to a weekend/fill-in role. Muwakkil will continue to host a show for WVON-AM on Saturday nights. Maya Akai had already exited WVON-AM at the end of May of this year to become a an Internet radio host. Her Thursday night-time slot had since been filled by a rotating group of guest hosts. Of the four hosts being replaced, Akai is the only one that will not have any future role with the station.

Replacing Sims’ show from 6:00pm-9:00pm on Fridays will be “Life and Love,” hosted by Dr. Karla K. Ivankovich and Dr. Dan Ivankovich. The couple will address building solid relationships, improving and enhancing communication and instilling and infusing love back into interpersonal relationships.

Dr. Karla has a PhD in Psychology and has been a licensed clinical professional counselor for over 15 years. An orthopedic trauma and spine surgeon, Dr. Dan is also known to many as a Blues guitarist and historian. Together, they use their wit and positive outlook to offer insight into life, relationships, and personal accountability on their radio show.

“Life and Love” had most recently been airing on WVON-AM on Sundays from 11:00pm-1:00am.
