Comedian Jeremy McLellan posted the video on Facebook on Saturday, saying that it was shot by his friend, who had given permission for the video to be used but wished to remain anonymous. According to McLellan’s post, his friend let the woman ahead of her in line because the woman was in a hurry. Then, the woman started to bad-mouth another Muslim woman, who was wearing a niqab, and asked McLellan’s friend why she wasn’t also covered. McLellan’s friend explained that the covering was a choice.
“The woman didn’t believe her and started talking about FGM (female genital mutilation) and telling her ‘I wish they didn’t let you in the country,’” McLellan wrote, noting that was the point when his friend started recording.
“I shouldn’t have let you in front of me,” McLellan’s friend can be heard saying behind the camera.
“I wish they didn’t let you in the country,” the woman says.
“Excuse me?” McLellan’s friend responds. “I was born here.”
“Oh, you were?” the woman shoots back, then pauses for some time before continuing, “Obama’s not in office anymore. We don’t have a Muslim in there anymore.”
“Yeah, I wish he was,” the Muslim woman says.
“He’s gone. He’s gone,” the woman says with a smile, adding, “He may be in jail too, in the future.”
McLellan’s friend then suggests that the woman is “a little crazy,” but the woman insists that she is “normal” before the video ends.
