WESTVILLE | A water main break at the Westville Correctional Facility has left the prison without running water since Thursday.

The water main that runs from the water tower to the tanks at the prison broke, meaning there is no running water in the facility, said Sharon Hawk, public information officer for the facility.

Hawk said bottled water and portable toilets have been brought in for hydration and sanitation.

Hawk said an outside contractor has been brought in to repair the broken water main.

She said the hospital and kitchen are functioning.

“We are doing everything we can,” Hawk said. “We are asking for (the offenders’) patience and understanding.”

She did not know exactly when the water main would be repaired.

The Westville Correctional Facility was opened in 1979 and currently serves 3,200 offenders.
