U.K Radio Station “Bang Radio” Edits Beyonce’s Drunk In Love Because Of Offensive Lyrics

Beyonce enlisted her husband Jay Z for “Drunk in Love,” a track off of her hugely successful fifth studio album, “Beyonce.”

A U.K. radio station called Bang Radio announced this week that only an edited version of “Drunk in Love” will be played. The company’s CEO, Jennifer Ogole, explained that a line from Jay Z’s verse in the track has been cut out, as Bang takes issue with the words. In the verse Jay Z raps, “Now eat the cake, Anna Mae / I said eat the cake, Anna Mae,” referencing a line from “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” the Angela Bassett-starring biopic about Tina Turner and her relationship with Ike Turner.

Jennifer Ogole says

“The lyrics controversially imitate a scene of severe domestic violence within the film, displaying promotion of domestic violence against women,. “In this light Bang [refuses] to play the song lyrics from henceforth on our station.”

“We believe in the unity of women and music and in no way condone violence, domestic or otherwise, especially not through the power of music,” the statement continued. “Therefore, the decision has been made to wipe the stated lyrics from the song … Respectful of what our audience [wants] to hear on Bang Radio, we feel this is the right action to take in regards to the controversial lyrics of the song and we will continue to serve in social equality for people through music and content on our station.”
