The Michael Brown shooting has undoubtedly sent shock waves of mixed emotions through everyone who has kept up with the story.  Michael Brown isn’t viewed as the “model” citizen, however he was “human” nonetheless.  Never will I say the choices of how we live our lives permit anyone to be shot down like an animal, not one of God’s people deserve that.  The fact of the matter is we have a young man dead, a town in ruins, a police department in disarray and for what, because a person who was position of “authority” was disrespectful.

However, in the midst of the adversity taken place in Ferguson, Missouri an organization has truly touched my heart with a very classy move.  The Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated has agreed to pay for the funeral expenses for Michael Brown as written in the official correspondence from the fraternity’s headquarters.

Some may ask why is this a big deal?  I’ll tell you why, this awesome organization of African-American men has stepped up on many occasions and spoke out about the perils that plague the African-American community just as many others has as well.  The Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have a “don’t talk about it but be about it” mentality and we all could take a lesson from them.  As their history states on their website: “Since its founding on December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has supplied voice and vision to the struggle of African-Americans and people of color around the world.“

It is organizations like Alpha Phi Alpha where members like Dr. Martin Luther King,  Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and W. E. B. DuBois who have stood up to fight for change, equality and fairness for people of color. The organization continuously steps outside the box and collectively come together and do what it takes to ensure that people of color are continuously getting a “fair” shake in this world of racial combat.  I use the word “combat” because people of color has always had to don the “helmet of war” just to get the basic rights that every human should have access to, from housing to the law.  Everything has pretty much been a combative fight and when animals are in higher regard than people not just African-Americans, that’s a serious problem.

I applaud Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated for taking charge and stepping up to provide The Brown Family with this much-needed assistance.  I don’t doubt that the family may have been bombarded with several offers for assistance and I applaud those people or organizations as well.

To some this gesture may not be very much, but until you are put in a situation and your finances are already stretched out of shape, I’m sure the help would be much appreciated.  I don’t doubt for a moment that Michael Brown’s family isn’t appreciative.  They are more than likely elated and eternally grateful that the financial burden has been lifted from their shoulders.

So to the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated the Earhustle411 family and the writing staff applauds you and we tip our hats off to you.
