Texas police officer Sgt. Ariel Soltura was patrolling the streets of Rosenburg on Saturday when he drove past a boy playing ball alone. He decided to join him.

The moment was captured on the officer’s dash-cam and has since gone viral.

Soltura can be seen in the dash-cam video stopping his car and striking up a conversation with the boy, who likely expected to be chastised for playing near the street.

“I did like this, which is the universal sign of ‘throw me the football’,” Soltura said, “and at that time you just saw his face lit up, and he was ready to play.”

The boy steps off screen, then returns to the video, running to catch the ball that the Soltura has just tossed. The two appear to play catch for a few minutes.

The short game is reportedly an attempt by authorities to reach out to youth in the community.

The video was first posted to Rosenberg Police Department’s Facebook page with the caption: “While a 2 minute game of football might not mean anything, to some it could mean everything!”
