A 17-year-old boy died this afternoon after being critically wounded in a shooting on the South Side in the city’s Bronzeville neighborhood.
The shooting happened shortly before 3 p.m. on the 3900 block of South Prairie Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.
According to preliminary reports, the boy suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, said Estrada. The teen, whose name was not being released pending notification of family members, was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m. at the hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police News Affairs was releasing no information about the circumstances of the shooting and as of 9 p.m., no one was in custody for the attack.
Police were investigating.
