A Butts County, Ga., teenager was arrested March 4 and charged with bashing the head of his grandmother until she died, reportedly for not taking him to the store to buy cigarettes.

JeNorman Bland, 18, is facing several charges, including murder, according to AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB.

The station reported that Bland’s grandmother was found dead inside her home near Jackson, Ga., around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“She was struck multiple times with a baseball bat,” Butts County Sheriff Gray Long told the station.

Long said Bland told investigators he went to his grandmother’s house asking for a ride to the store, but the grandmother declined to go get the cigarettes because she was getting ready to go to work. Police said Bland then went outside, grabbed a bat, then came back in and began chasing and hitting his grandmother in the head and body until she died, according to Long.

He said Bland stole his grandmother’s car after the beating.  He was later tracked down and arrested by Griffin police.

“He confessed to the murder,” Long said.

Bland is charged with murder, false imprisonment, kidnapping and armed robbery.
