A Tampa Bay area teacher is on administrative leave after investigators say several students caught him watching adult gay porn on his phone during class.

Ninth grade reading teacher at Mulberry High School, Vadi Velez-Gonzalez, is accused of leaving his phone in plain view of students while looking at pornography.

“The last place he needs to be is a school for our children,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

At one point, investigators said a female student noticed the pornography when she went up to his desk to ask a question.

She was so stunned that she returned moments later to pretend to throw something in the trash, but was actually secretly filming him, Judd said.

It wasn’t long before the rest of the school saw that video after it was posted on Snapchat.

“The video wasn’t playing, it was paused, but you could see what he was watching,” said Destiny Potter, freshman student who watched the video.

“You can do that, just not at school when you have kids in your class because that’s just nastiness,” she added.

Students in his class alerted other staff members, who quickly contacted detectives.
