Sorority VP of Pi Beta Phi University of Memphis Arrested For Misappropriation Of Funds

A University of Memphis sorority sister faces criminal charges for reportedly stealing from her sorority sisters.

Brittaney Hicks, 23, was previously arrested in 2012. Three years later, the Pi Beta Phi Vice President is back in jail after she was accused of failing to pay back $30 thousand to her sorority.

“Times are hard now, but people have to do what they need to do,” said University of Memphis student Kimberly Kamga. “But forging checks, that’s just really extreme, and that many.”

According to a police affidavit, Hicks forged 33 checks, totally $30,000, between July 2013 and January 2014.

“Yeah, that’s at least two years of school,” said University of Memphis student Forrest Sable.

The Collegiate Regional Director for Pi Beta Phi said Hicks was given several opportunities to give the money back, but she never did.

The Pi Beta Phi chapter president had no comment.

WMC Action News 5 is waiting for a statement from the national Pi Beta Phi organization.

Hicks gave investigators a written statement in which she admitted forging the president’s name on checks and keeping the money for herself.

Either way, students felt that if Hicks needed the money, she could have found a legal way to acquire it.

“It’s not even worth it,” said one student. “Not worth it.”
