Embattled rapper Da Brat has been ordered to pay $6.4 million to a waitress she was accused of assaulting after losing a lawsuit over the 2007 incident.
The hip-hop star, real name Shawntae Harris, served three years in prison for aggravated assault for attacking Shayla Stevens with a bottle at an Atlanta, Ga., nightclub.
She walked free in 2011, but faced a new legal battle as Stevens had filed a civil suit against her while behind bars.
The case went to trial in Atlanta this week, but was delayed on Wednesday when a juror was found unfit to serve as he was not a U.S. citizen.
The judge declared a mistrial, but a new jury was promptly selected and a verdict was delivered in the victim’s favor on Thursday, reports TMZ.com.
The rapper was found responsible for causing permanent facial scarring, neurological impairment and severe mental pain and ordered to pay damages.
