Police are warning area residents after a woman was sexually assaulted early Saturday in the South Loop.

Sometime between 3 and 3:35 a.m., the 31-year-old woman was walking in the 600 block of South Plymouth Court when a man grabbed her and hit her with a blunt object, according to a community alert from Chicago Police. The man had followed her from the Harrison Red Line station.

He forced the woman to a secluded place where he sexually assaulted her and stole her purse, police said. He then fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a black man between 20 and 27 years old, standing between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 and weighing 145-180 pounds, police said. He has brown eyes, a light complexion and short hair. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, a Chicago White Sox baseball hat, light-colored blue jeans and white gym shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
