Rick Ross did not make his scheduled performance at Detroit’s HOT 107.5 Summer Jamz 17 concert at the city’s Chene Park Amphitheater on Saturday night (June 21). The no-show came amidst rumors that he was blocked from entering the venue by a large mob of people at the behest of local rapper, Trick Trick.

Ross was supposed to headline the multi-artist bill that also included B.o.B., A$AP Ferg and Scarface, among others. According to concert promoter The Right Productions, Ross was confronted by “100 individuals” that prevented the rapper and his entourage from getting beyond the site’s outer gates.

“This issue didn’t happen within Chene Park; it happened outside,” said David Rudolph, a spokesperson for The Right Productions (via MLive). “And it’s unfortunate that this was a tactic to prevent another artist performing.”

Radio station program director Jay Hicks addressed the crowd of approximately 3000 people from the stage moments after the confrontation to announce that the show was over.

“I’m going to be real with y’all; I’m going to be real as f—,” Hicks explained over a chorus of boos from the audience. “We had Rick Ross right outside here tonight at about eleven o’clock. As he was pulling up to come into Chene Park, he was met by 100 individuals outside… we will try to pull every resource together and ask (Ross) to come back. He is in fear of his life. I’m just being real; real talk. This is some real s—. He was in fear of his life and (he) is not performing here tonight.”

Allegations have been swirling that local rapper Trick Trick and his “Goon Sqwad” were behind Ross being blocked from performing, with Trick Trick recently releasing a song called “No Fly Zone” that calls for a ban on hip-hop artists who attempt to perform in Detroit “without permission.”

Ross’ only response to the incident so far has been a tweet he sent out the night of the show, calling it “a peace protest”

Detroit Police Department Sgt. Eren Stephens told MLive that she was not aware of any arrests made at Chene Park in connection to the confrontation.

This is not the first time Ross has dealt with drama in Detroit. His tour bus was robbed of cash, clothing and jewelry during a 2012 stop in the Motor City. Coincidentally, Trick Trick was rumored to be involved that incident as well, an accusation he vehemently denied.
