Since first joining “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Kandi Burruss has always been closest with cast mate Phaedra Parks and of all her co-stars Phaedra was the only one that walked in Kandi’s extravagant wedding to Todd Tucker back in April.
In fact, when Kandi was coming under fire by her critical mother for choosing to marry Todd, Phaedra was one of the couple’s biggest advocates and stood up for Todd when Mama Joyce attempted to suggest he was a gold digger during season six.
However, the tables have seemed to turn as now Kandi is defending Phaedra and whatever decision she makes for her marriage with her recently imprisoned husband Apollo Nida.
As we previously reported, Apollo recently surrendered himself to Kentucky’s FMC Lexington Prison earlier in the month and divorce rumors about the RHOA couple are at an all time high after Apollo and Phaedra got into an argument the day he was supposed to turn himself in.
Although sources claim that Phaedra is sure to divorce Apollo once he get settled in jail, Kandi is not so sure that’s the case and recently revealed during an interview with “The Breakfast Club” that she encouraged Phaedra to save her marriage, CocoaFab reported.
“No I didn’t tell her to get a divorce. I’m cool with Phaedra, but Todd is cool with Apollo. So this conversation gets heated sometimes,” Kandi said.
The singer wouldn’t discuss how Phaedra is handling the divorce rumors, but Kandi did say that if she was in her friend’s position, divorce wouldn’t be her first option.
“For me, if it were my husband, I wouldn’t leave him just because he was going to jail. If it was about the other stuff that was going on that would be different,” she said. “If he was just doing me wrong all the time, I would be like ‘I don’t have time for this.'”
While divorce is speculated to be inevitable, Phaedra may find comfort in her RHOA friends that have been supporting her throughout her husband’s entire indictment.
Even NeNe Leakes has shown empathy towards Phaedra’s situation with Apollo, and although they haven’t always been on the best of terms, when Apollo’s Sept. 10 sentence date was revealed she was one of the first to voice her concern.
“I feel bad,” NeNe admitted in a July interview. “You know, I know he committed a crime and I know all of that, but I feel bad because I really like Apollo.”
Although she’s sad to know that Apollo will be in prison for the next eight years, missing out on the lives of his two small sons, NeNe surprisingly revealed that she had not spoken to Phaedra about Apollo’s verdict.
“I have not,” NeNe said. “You know, I’ve talked to Phaedra but I haven’t talked to her about that. That’s kind of uncomfortable. So I don’t know how to like, say, ‘Hey Phaedra. Apollo got how many years girl?’ Like that’s so not a conversation. So we didn’t talk about that, but I feel bad for her.”
NeNe and Phaedra have since started forming their own friendship, which has been pretty apparent from both their social media. Kandi recently hinted that the season seven cast was at a bit of a divide, but all-in-all it’s good to see that all her cast mates her being supportive during Phaedra’s emotional time.
