Radio Legend & Chicago Icon Herb "The Cool Gent" Kent Passes Away At Age 88

EarHustle411 has reported many stories of the untimely passing of people from the average person in the community to some of entertainment’s biggest celebrities.  However, we are at a complete loss of words as we report the passing of one of our most cherished and beloved radio personalities.

It is with mixed emotions and a very heavy heart that we report Chicago’s  very own and legendary celebrity  Herb “The Cool Gent” Kent has died at age 88.

Herb’s unique voice and style has been on the airways for approximately 70 years years but could be heard on Chicago radio for 27 of those glorious year’s entertaining the listeners with his knowledge of not just black music but music in general.  Chicago has been blessed to have a friend on the air every Saturday morning which subsequently October 22, 2016 was unfortunately the last time Kent’s iconic voice will be heard.  EarHustle411 last saw Herb Kent at the homecoming service of another iconic personality Doug Banks, he was his jovial and gracious self.  We are always blessed to be in his presence.

The entertainment industry has lost a gentle soul of a man and there will NEVER EVER BE ANOTHER like him.   Those who were fortunate enough to have been taught and mentored in the radio business by Herb Kent are blessed beyond measure.

Rest in Power Herb Kent!! EarHustle411 sends our deepest condolences and prayers to the family, friends, colleagues and students of Herb and may our Creator give them strength and peace as they endure through this time of bereavement.
