A burst radiator is being blamed for the deaths of two toddlers living in temporary housing for homeless people in New York.
According to The New York Times, the sisters, 1-year-old Scylee Vayoh Ambrose and 2-year-old Ibanez Ambrose, were found severely burned and unconscious Wednesday when emergency workers arrived. The girls were transported to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The fire department says a preliminary investigation shows the radiator malfunctioned, possibly because of an exploding valve, causing ‘boiling steam’ to explode into the girls room.
A neighbor told WABC-TV that she heard a woman screaming and saw steam emerging from the closed door.
The building where the incident happened is being used to house homeless people in New York City, and provides temporary shelter until they are stable again.
