According to NBC News 5 in Dallas, a former chief of police in the Houston area has been found dead in his own back yard, just days before he was set to stand trial for allegedly raping a child.
Michael Palmer, a former police chief, was found in his back yard unresponsive last Thursday in West Columbia, which is about 50 miles southwest of Houston.
An autopsy will be performed, but authorities suspect Palmer may have taken his own life, as he was set to stand trial over allegations that he raped a minor.
The case has been ongoing. In fact, Palmer disappeared for a while in 2013 when he was first indicted. Palmer was up on several charges, including tampering with evidence and sexual assault of a child, which allegedly involved a 7-year-0ld.
