A Plano firefighter rescued twin babies from a burning duplex on Thursday.

Firefighters responded about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday to a reported car fire in the alley of a duplex in the 1800 block of Nest Place and found the fire had spread from the vehicle to the rear of the building.

A firefighter, Randy Wood, helped a woman and toddler out of the duplex when she told her that her babies were still inside the burning home.

Wood went back inside and searched multiple rooms before he found the 9-month-old twins asleep in a back bedroom. He carried both of the twins out and was able to reunite the babies with their mother outside.

“You’re always taught in the fire service, you risk a lot to save a lot,” Wood said.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire and the duplex received moderate smoke and water damage, according to the department.
