MIDLAND, Mich. — A woman in Michigan reportedly had her Planet Fitness membership revoked after she complained about a transgender woman who had walked into the women’s locker room.

According to WNEM, Yvette Cormier, a member of Planet Fitness in Midland, Mich., said she had no idea why the person had come into the women’s locker room.

“I was stunned and shocked. He looked like a man,” Cormier told WNEM. “He did not look like a woman.”

Cormier reportedly complained to the front desk and to the corporate offices. She said she was told the person was allowed in the women’s locker room because “that’s the sex he wants to be,” according to WNEM.

WNEM reported that Planet Fitness released the following statement following the incident:

“Planet Fitness is committed to creating a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for our members. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use all gym facilities based on their sincere self-reported gender identity.

In expressing her concerns about the policy, the member in question exhibited behavior that club management deemed inappropriate and disruptive to other members, which is a violation of the membership agreement and as a result her membership was canceled”

Cormier said she was not aware that Planet Fitness had a policy allowing transgender women to share the women’s locker room. She told WNEM she isn’t concerned about getting her membership back, but is concerned about warning other women about the policy. She said Planet Fitness failed to warn her about the policy.
