NYPD Lieutenant Who Authorized The Arrest Of Black Postal Worker Has Been Stripped Of Badge & Gun

Earlier this month, a group of plainclothes police arrested an on-duty Brooklyn postal worker, and video of the rough arrest soon went viral. Now, the lieutenant who oversaw the arrest has been stripped of his badge and gun.

Lt. Luis Machado, who has now been placed on modified duty, was in the car with three other cops when their unmarked car nearly struck the postal truck of Glen Grays. When Grays shouted at the car over the near miss, the officers returned and proceeded to arrest Grays, putting him in handcuffs and booking him on charges of resisting arrest.

Since video of the arrest began to go viral, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has come forward to say that he had “strong concerns” about the arrest and the behavior of the officers involved.

“I am very interested in the charge that was made against this individual, what he was arrested for and the validity of that,” Bratton said Tuesday. “Based on what I witnessed on the various videos I’ve reviewed I have strong concerns about the charge against that individual.”

As for Grays, the postal worker agrees that the officers involved should be disciplined but does not want them to lose their jobs.

“Honestly speaking, we’re all human, we all make mistakes, but lately a lot of mistakes have been made by police officers,” Grays said.
