A North Carolina Powerball winner’s boyfriend posted a $12 million bond Friday in his fourth time getting bailed out since her jackpot, according to reports.
Lamar (Hot Sauce) McDow, 31, is accused of arranging a street race Saturday, and police said he was arrested Tuesday for violating the terms of his pre-trial release on earlier charges, WECT-TV reported.
McDow’s live-in girlfriend, Shallote resident Marie Holmes, collected an $88 million lump sum payment after taxes for winning a $188 million jackpot in February. Her beau walked free on a $3 million bond weeks later and got out of jail on a $6 million bond in August.
He got bailed out again in October and investigators in the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in the southeastern section of the state say McDow is a gang member, the StarNews of Wilmington reported. Deputies said he conspired in a street race that saw two Corvettes going about 100 mph Saturday night, according to the news outlet.
His bonds are skyrocketing because the amount automatically doubles if a defendant breaks the rules of a pre-trial release, local attorneys told WECT. The non-refundable fee paid to bail bondsmen who bail out an inmate usually amounts to roughly 10% of the total bond amount.
Officials in the sheriff’s office told the TV station McDow’s latest arrest happened when their GPS monitoring system showed him at a location other than the ones he’s allowed in — namely his home, work, church, doctor or court.
Efforts to reach Holmes and McDow were unsuccessful Friday night. Roland Loftin, the Wilson-based bail bondsman listed as posting bail for McDow, declined to comment.
McDow’s previous arrests include drug, assault and weapons charges, the StarNews reported.
