Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins & The Cast Of Shawshank Redemption Reunite For The Film’s 20th Anniversary

Every once in a great while something worth remembering comes from TinsleTown aka Hollywood.  Some movies created leave a lasting impression and they just never seem to get old.  The movie Shawshank Redemption is one of those movies. With A-List leading men like Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, the producers of the film could not have chosen a better duo to act out these characters telling their story about life in prison.

Shawshank Redemption is celebrating 20years and each time I see the movie I always find something new in the movie.  It gives a highlight about what happens inside the prison walls, the good , bad and the ugly.  While the main character Andy Dufresne (pronounced Doo Frayne) was truly innocent and was convicted of a crime that he really didn’t do.  Throughout his days at Shawshank he had seen his fair share of what prison life had to offer and frankly made the decision to “beat the system” at its own game.

Shawshank Redemption

Of all the movies made about the perils of prison, Shawshank Redemption gets 10 stars, if such a rating could ever exist.  Even with the seriousness of the movie’s plot, there were several memorable quotes that truly made this movie one for the record books.  Below are a few of my favorites:

Ellis Boy “Red” Redding:  Hope is a dangerous thing my friend, it can kill a man…

Andy Dufresne: Hope is a good thing. Maybe even the best of things and good things never die

Ellis Boy “Red” Redding:  Hope is a dangerous thing. Drive a man insane

Andy Dufresne: Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

Heywood: The Count of Monte Crisco…

Floyd:  It’s CRISTO ya dumb shit.

Heywood:  By Alexandre Dumas…dumb ass.

Andy Dufresne: Dumas. Ya know what that’s about?

Heywood: Huh uh…

Andy Dufresne: You’ll like it, it’s about a prison break.

Ellis Boy “Red” Redding: Well we oughta file that under educational too, oughtn’t we?

Andy Dufresne:  You know, the funny thing is, on the outside I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook.

Ellis Boy “Red” Redding:  Some birds aren’t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they’re gone.

Regardless if you like this movie for the nostalgia it adds to the numerous of prison themed films or because you’re fans of the main characters.  One fact remains is Shawshank Redemption is a fantastic film and each time I see it, I always find something new in it.

So if you haven’t watched Shawshank in a while, dust off the DVD, make  some popcorn and enjoy a true classic as well as this clip from one of the greatest movies ever made.
