Medical Examiner Reveals Joan Rivers Died Due To Lack Of Oxygen To The Brain

Joan Rivers Family Face Agonizing Decision Over Whether To Turn Off Life Support Machine

The New York City Medical Examiner has finally revealed that lack of oxygen to Joan Rivers’ brain caused her death over a month ago.

According to the medical examiner’s report, her death was officially caused by “anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease.”

Rivers died Sept. 4, a week after she had been rushed to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest during a throat procedure to evaluate changes in her voice, and to address her acid reflux, at Yorkville Endoscopy. While the medical examiner called the complication “predicable” in its report, released Wednesday, the doctor who performed Rivers’ procedure has since left the practice and the clinic is under investigation by The New York State Health Department. Neither the doctor nor the clinic has been accused of wrongdoing at this time.
