For the past couple of months, over 10 black and Latino girls have disappeared in Washington, DC and the media is completely Mute. Natalee Holloway who was kidnapped in Aruba over 10 years ago is still headline news. Could it be because she is white with blonde hair and blue eyes?

Why is it when people of color come up missing, the media sits silently as if their lives do not matter and then on with the next victim attitude.

Several years ago, when Natalie Halloway was kidnapped in Aruba never to be seen again and the media frenzy was crazy. She recently made headlines again after all these years yet over 10 minority girls have been missing in Washington DC our nation’s capital and not any mention on any major news source

Do you have to be white for the media to care about you? Do you have to be affluent for the world to care about you?

According to Urban Intellectuals, this phenomenon, first called “missing white woman syndrome” by PBS reporter Gwen Ifill, occurs when the mainstream media gives more attention and preference to covering the cases of young, white, and attractive women from middle-class or upper-class upbringings rather than people of color or others who don’t fit that criteria.
