Phaedra Parks might not be the Bonnie to Apollo’s Clyde anymore.
The Real Housewives Of Atlanta star has always been ride or die for her husband, and goes hard for her man when anyone had anything to say about his prison past or rumors that he creeps with other women. However, she may have finally hit her limit now that Apollo returned to prison last week to start serving his eight year sentence after being convicted in July of conspiring to commit mail, wire and bank fraud.
According to a RadarOnline source, Phaedra is about to divorce Apollo and kick him to the curb, which she would have done sooner but she “feared for her safety.” The source also claims that Apollo cheated on Phaedra and was spending all of her money.
“Phaedra has been patiently waiting for Apollo to begin serving his prison sentence, and will have him served with divorce papers at the correctional facility in Kentucky,” a source told Radar.
“There was no way Phaedra was going to put her life on hold for the next decade, awaiting Apollo to be released. The marriage was a huge mistake, but did give her their beloved kids. There were serious trust issues with Apollo, and Phaedra suspects he has been unfaithful, and has been burning through money. Phaedra has always been the breadwinner, and she began to resent it.”
Fearing for her safety had “prevented Phaedra from filing for divorce in the past. Having Apollo behind bars gives Phaedra a huge level of comfort and security. It’s sad that it came to this, but Phaedra knows it’s the right thing for her to do,” the insider added.
This is the second prison sentence for Apollo, who was released from jail in 2009 (just before Phaedra joined RHOA). During his court case earlier this year, Apollo revealed that he fell into bank fraud and identity theft after Phaedra joined the show because he was pressured to maintain a certain lifestyle:
He said she was making far more money than him and he felt pressure to keep up. (He cited a $600,000 contract for her but didn’t say how long that was supposed to last.) Without easy legitimate ways to make quick money, he opted for this illegal scheme instead. But he claimed to her he was running a legitimate debt recovery firm and kept her firmly in the dark.
He said he even had a nervous breakdown at one point over the pressures to “sustain a lifestyle” befitting of a reality show star. And once he started the scheme, he found it difficult to stop. “I got sucked in and engulfed and lost sight of things,” he said.
Nida said he often didn’t think about whether this was hurting anybody because he was primarily targeting private businesses and the government, not individuals. And in the case of unclaimed property, what were the odds these folks would ever claim them?
Phaedra’s rep Steve Honig wouldn’t comment on whether or not a divorce was on the horizon, but he did say that she’s focused on raising her kids and keeping her head above water.
“Phaedra is now putting all of her energy into ensuring the well-being of her two children and making decisions that are in their best interests. This situation has put a tremendous strain on Phaedra and her family, and she is working hard to bring back a sense of normalcy to everyone’s lives.”
Meanwhile, Kandi Burruss, who stopped by The Breakfast Club morning radio show this week, also hinted that we are about to get all the tea on the upcoming season.
“It’s a lot of stuff about [the Phaedra and Apollo] situation that you’re going to find out on the new season, so I can’t really tell you. I can’t, but it’s some things that will be surprising about that situation that’s going to come out on the new season. So I can’t go too far about that. It’s some things that’s going to come back that you’ll see that you’re going to be like, ‘huh!?’”
