Mayflies have emerged from the Mississippi River in massive numbers, according to the National Weather Service.
Weather radar detected the flies – similar to that of light-moderate rain – emerging from the river on July 20, 2014 around 8:45 p.m.
By late evening, mayflies had swarmed several towns in Wisconsin up and down the river. Depending on the species, the flies can emerge through the warm season at various times.
