The medical marijuana distributor PharmaCannis plans to open its dispensary at 1804 Maple Ave. in Evanston next month.
It’s one of four distribution centers — the others are in North Aurora, Ottawa and Schaumburg — that the PharmaCannis plans to open as soon as final inspections are completed and a supply of cannabis is available from its cultivation site.
The company held a community meeting at the Evanston Public Library over the weekend to explain requirements for patients seeking to purchase medical marijuana.
Under state regulations patients need to be fingerprinted and have a prescription from their doctor to be allowed into the dispensary facility.
The city agreed to lease the long-vacant office space in the Maple Avenue garage to a medical marijuana dispensary during the state’s approval process for dispensary licenses and last spring aldermen imposed a 6 percent tax on the cultivation of medical cannabis.
