Man Sentenced To 10 Years Probation And $10K Fine After Pleading Guilty To Accident That Killed A Mother And Her Child

According to KFDM, The former West Orange-Stark assistant football coach who pleaded guilty to running over a young mother and her 6-year-old daughter in 2015 was sentenced Monday to 10 years’ probation.

Carl Broussard had been charged with two counts of failure to stop and render aid, the official charge for hit and run, in the Nov. 2, 2015 deaths of Ava Lewis, 25, and her daughter LaMya Newhouse.

The mother and daughter tried to cross MacArthur Drive on foot when they were struck by a car driven by Broussard.

Broussard left the scene and turned himself into the Orange Police Department the next day.

He was indicted last July and pleaded guilty in March.

On Monday, he was sentenced by a judge to 10 years’ probation and a $10,000 fine.

The crime carried a punishment range of 2 to 20 years in prison.
