Antwaun Jones is his own hero. The brave 12-year-old boy jumped out of a rapidly moving vehicle to escape a man who had forced him into the car at gunpoint.

According to WTVR-TV, Antwaun was walking to the park to meet a friend Sunday afternoon in Kenbridge, Va., when a man pulled up in a Chevy Blazer, put a gun to his stomach and demanded that he get into the vehicle.

Antwaun did not know the creep who attempted to kidnap him.

“I’ve never seen him a day in my life,” the little boy said. “About five minutes down the road, he told me he was gay and asked if he could kiss me.”

Antwaun became scared, and fearing for his life, he began to reach for the door even as the man began accelerating the car and reaching for him in an attempt to stop him.

“He started to speed up the car. He was going, like, 35 at first, then he started speeding up to 50, then 55. As soon as he hit 60, I just jumped,” Antwaun said. “I hit my head, like, three times. The pain level was a 10, and I tucked and rolled at first. I got my first cut, then it started cutting all up and down my body.”

Antwaun sustained a broken collarbone, a chipped elbow and road abrasions as a result of his dash to safety. The courage that took is monumental.

Luckily, an eyewitness in the small town of 1,200 saw Antwaun and stopped to help him, while also calling 911 and Antwaun’s parents.

Police quickly identified and located the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Eric Donte Harrison, crediting their success in finding him to surveillance footage from a local store as well as a bystander who pointed him out as the culprit.

Harrison is facing charges of abduction with intent to defile, and use of a firearm in the commission of abduction. Harris reportedly admitted to “picking up” Antwaun but denied using a gun. Harrison is currently in jail without bond.

Meanwhile, Antwaun’s father, Anthony Jones, is just glad that his son is safe.

“He’s his own hero. He saved his own life,” Jones said. “I was grateful to God for protecting and bringing my son back to me.”

Antwaun, for his part, is glad he found the courage to take the leap, even though he got a bit banged up.

“I don’t mind having a couple broken bones as long as I get back home to my family,” he said.
