Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog no longer have a rainbow connection. The famous Muppets are breaking up!

On Tuesday (August 4), Kermit somberly announced the split during a press conference to promote ABC’s upcoming docu-style sitcom about Kermit, Piggy and co. aptly called “The Muppets.” First Gavin and Gwen, then Zayn and Perrie and now Kermit and Piggy?! What is going on with the world?

“Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically,” the frogpreneur said per EW. “It can be tough to work with your ex. It can be tough to be the executive producer on your ex’s late-night TV show, especially when your ex is a pig. I don’t know whether any of you have ever dated pigs.”

While Kermit remained calm throughout the press conference, Miss Piggy got a little heated when asked about their professional relationship. “I have no problem working with my ex, okay? It’s fine. It’s totally healed,” she said. “Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”

After the press conference, the famed pig and frog posted separate, yet mostly similar, statements on Facebook:
It’s interesting that in Kermit’s statement he says it was Miss Piggy’s decision to split. Could she be capitalizing on the amount of publicity a celebrity split like this normally accrues? Seeing how she said she would talk “for the right offer,” we’re going to go with yes.

The couple seems to be handling the split OK. According to multiple reports, Kermit has been getting “pretty serious” with Denise, a marketing exec at ABC.

We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out — on cameras, of course — when “The Muppets” premieres on ABC this fall.
