Former First Lady Nancy Reagan has died at the age of 94 at her home in Los Angeles, the Reagan Foundation announced on Sunday.

Reagan was born Anne Frances Robbins in New York City on July 6, 1921.

She served as first lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989 alongside her husband President Ronald Reagan.

One of her most memorable accomplishments as first lady was her work against drug and alcohol abuse, serving as a spokeswoman for the “Just Say No” campaign.

Her time in the White House was also marked by two life-changing events: the attempted assassination of her husband and a more personal battle with breast cancer.

Years after leaving office, Ronald Reagan announced he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, leading to the establishment of the Nancy Reagan Research Institute to help support Alzheimer’s research.

After Ronald Reagan’s death in 2004 from pneumonia, complicated by Alzheimer’s disease, Nancy Reagan became an outspoken advocate for stem-cell research.
