Police say a woman fatally stabbed her former roommate Sunday.
Chief Brian Benton said Kadiedra S. Speed, 20, had been living for about a month with her friend, Sharleatha M. Green, 34, in the 200 block of North Eastern Avenue.
“Around 6 a.m. Green told Speed she would have to leave. Speed and a man returned about 12:30 p.m. and she tried to get in and realized the locks had been changed,” Benton said.
Witnesses at Green’s apartment told investigators Speed and her companion broke a window to get inside, a fight ensued and Speed stabbed Green with a knife, Benton said.
Speed and the man fled when police arrived to find Green bleeding on the living room floor, Benton said. Green was transported to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 1:01 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner’s office.
Benton said after witnesses were interviewed at the police station Sunday evening, officers located Speed and the man who had been with her.
Speed was arrested on a charge of murder and booked into the Will County jail shortly before midnight. Her companion was questioned, but not charged, Benton said.
