Jermaine Dupri Says Ciara Jacked Usher’s “U Got It Bad” For Her New Single “I Bet”

Ciara‘s been basking in the release of her new video “I Bet” where she shows off her flawless post-baby body. However hit-maker Jermaine Dupri wants Ciara to pump the brakes, saying the singer’s song is nothing but a rip-off of Usher‘s 2001 hit “U Got It Bad,” a song Dupri produced.

Are the lines blurred in this case too?

Dupri plans to contact the singer about the song and although he’s not planning to sue like Marvin Gaye‘s kids did when they took Pharrell and Robin Thicke to court, he does want credit. In the Marvin Gaye case, a jury awarded the family $7.2 million after they found striking similarities of Thicke and Pharrell’s song “Blurred Lines” and Marvin’s 1970s smash “Got To Give It Up.”

Dupri is saying that Ciara’s song reeks of sampling from his Usher hit.

“I’m clear on what I made and I’m clear on how music influences people and I’m clear on chord changes and how people move things. … It might not be as evident as the ‘Blurred Lines’ situation, but I believe the same thing happened to me.”

“Younger producers like myself and Pharrell, we make records that are influenced by other records that are out there,” Jermaine told the AP. “That’s how hip-hop has always been created — it has some kind of element of something (from) the past. Or sometimes we just take the entire sample and we give the artist the credit for that sample.”

Dupri said he, Usher and Bryan Cox, who co-produced the song, noticed the similarities. Now that the “Blurred Lines” case has set precedence, perhaps more artists will be willing to give credit where credit is due.
