There were cheers and a few jeers as the Blackhawks honored commitment made months ago to bring the Little Leaguers to a game.
The Jackie Robinson West Little Leaguers spent Friday night in the company of Chicago’s best hope for another championship as guest of the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center Friday night.
The boys, who were stripped of their national title earlier this week by Little League International, were shown on the scoreboard after a first-period timeout, clad in new Blackhawks jerseys, and the crowd applauded them warmly.
But several hecklers in the United Center shouted “cheaters.” WGN 9 News reports that some people jeered at the team as they were walking into the United Center before the game.
The Blackhawks said they invited the kids months ago and treated the team to dinner before the game. They were accompanied by their parents and coach Darold Butler, who was banned from Little League this week after JR West’s falsified boundaries were exposed.
