George W. Bush was never accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer. As a “C” student from Yale University, Bush made his way through his political career by using his name and conservative “charm,” becoming governor of Texas and than President of the United States.

Ever since leaving office in January 2009, andleaving the country in financial ruins with a economic meltdown and two failed wars on his resume, Bush has largely stayed out of the spotlight. Unlike his Republican colleagues, Bush has even strayed away from criticizing President Obama, but over the last year, “Dubya” has inched his way back in front of the camera. While delivering the commencement address at Southern Methodist University on May 16, Bush jokingly and ironically told students who didn’t graduate with the best of grades, that they still have a shot at being president.

“Those of you who are graduating this afternoon with high honors, awards and distinctions, I say well done. And as I like to tell the “C” students, you could be president.”

The comment preceded laughter from the graduation class and those in attendance. Bush also spoke about religious freedom, noting that in the United States, people have “the freedom to worship who we want, and how we want, or not to worship at all.”

With an expected official announcement that his brother Jeb will be making a run for the Republican nomination for president in 2016, it remains to be seen whether or not George Bush follows him on the campaign trail. While his favorability rating has increased a bit since he left office, George W. Bush is still viewed as one of the least successful presidents in American history, and to many, the worst the country has ever seen.
